All videos listed are appropriate for Publication Education and Professional Service Provider audiences. POLICY FOR USE
Order at least three weeks in advance. May borrow for a two week period. Currently there is no loan charge. Must pay return postage. Borrower responsible for replacement if lost. May borrow only one program at a time. If more is needed at one time, contact CCERAP. One copy of guide or handouts will be provided and must be returned. ABUSE, DOMESTIC VIOLENCE & NEGLECT
The following videos are appropriate for either senior or service provider audiences

A SAFER PLACE (20 minute video)
Domestic violence against older people, brief stories of 3 victims of abuse and exploitation and confessions of 1 adult daughter who abused her mother. Good for general public and senior citizen viewing.

I'D RATHER BE HOME (30 minute video)
Norman has lived with his wife and abusive son(s) for many years. He talks about his many mixed emotions about reporting his son's actions against him. In spite of all the abuse, he prefers to live at home.

JUST TO HAVE A PEACEFUL LIFE (10 minute video)
Classic brief poignant testimonial from an older woman who discusses her early and later life as the wife of an abusive husband.

PREVENTING ELDER ABUSE (27 minute video)
Betty White hosts and narrates this primer on the many forms of elder abuse.

THE DANCE (25 minute video)
An older woman sensitively chronicles her life in an abusive marriage. Suitable for public or senior citizen viewing.

UNHEARD CRIES (15 minute video)
Shows examples of caregiver abuse by relatives, and abuse in a nursing home. Information on what to look for that would indicate abuse. Contains a second segment on neglect and self-neglect. It shows an elderly couple unable to care for themselves. Financial exploitation is touched on. Good for general public. Produced in Tennessee and references are Tennessee specific. Need to provide written complimentary information specific to your state.

ABUSE: THE RESIDENT’S PERSPECTIVE (20 minute video)
Residents report what they feel is abuse and their list of concerns may surprise professionals working with the elderly. Not only do their comments include the obvious, but also many things you would not think of unless you were a resident. From their perspective, negative attitudes, lack of respect, waiting for care, and even staff not wearing nametags are unacceptable. Residents give you the perspective of what it’s like to be on the other side of care. Shot on location at the Roland Park Place and Levindale Hebrew Geriatric Center and Hospital. Terra Nova Film.

CHANGING NEEDS, CHANGING HOME – ADAPTING YOUR HOME TO FIT YOU (10 minute video)
Information on how modifications, remodeling, adjustments or temporary changes can be made to your home, or who to work with the management of the facility where you live to make the necessary accommodations to maintain maximum independence for the elderly. Illustrates abusive behavior by caregivers.

(32 minute video)

Sensitive documentary of couples dealing with their personal perspectives and histories with Alzheimer’s and their relationships. Senior and professional audiences.

DISABILITIES IS NATURAL (7 minute video) *NEW
A green apple is more like red apples than different. A person with a disability is more like people without disabilities than different. Viewers are exposed to ways of thinking about people with disabilities.

MORE LIFE TO LIVE (25 minute video) *NEW
Traces an elderly man’s addiction to gambling and his successful recover. Discusses unhealthy lifestyles (gambling, alcohol, smoking and how they result in depression and ultimately a suicide attempt. Then concludes with recovery and healthy lifestyle choices.

RECOGNIZING AND RESPONDING TO EMOTIONS IN PERSONS WITH DEMENTIA (25 minute video)
Often in persons with dementia non-verbal signs are more accurate communications than verbalization. This video will teach caregivers how to understand and decipher – facial expressions, vocal signs, and body language in persons with dementia. Terra Nova Film.

SUBSTANCE ABUSE IN THE ELDERLY (29 minute video)
Faced with the complex regiments of medication and diminished tolerances for alcohol, many elderly Americans run the risk of falling into the trap of substance abuse. In this program from “The Doctor Is In” senior citizens discuss how they deal with these challenges, while Dr. James Campbell, director of geriatric center at MetroHealth Medical Center, and Carol Colleran Egan, director of older adult services for Hanley-Havelden Center, present some innovative programs created especially for elder people. THE 10 COMMANDMENTS OF COMMUNICATING WITH PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES (26 minute video) *NEW
Both a “diversity” and “sameness” training tool. It promotes sensitivity and respect of people with disabilities, while recognizing that all of us share some of the same values, interests, hopes, and dreams. It uses humorous vignettes to deliver its disability awareness message. It covers a wide variety of disabilities and human differences.

A man with a head injury chronicles his own life and the issue of advocacy among people with disabilities.

Covers types of charity appeals; Children, Veterans, Disaster Victims and Policy & Firefighters. Information on fighting back and developing a charity giving plan.

F.A.S.T. – FINANCIAL ABUSE SPECIALIST TEAM (33 minute video) *NEW
Video educates on all aspects of elder financial fraud. Shows an elderly women under undue influence of her son, and demonstrates how various government agencies can work collaboratively to assist high-risk elders in the most expedient manner possible.

FINANCIAL EXPLOITATION OF THE ELDERLY (24 minute video)
Shows ways to identify the various forms of financial abuse of older adults . . . by sales people, service providers and by family members or "friends." Also suggests ways to prevent such exploitation.

IDENTITY THEFT (45 minute video) *NEW
Provides education about the fastest growing crime in America. Reveals how identity thieves exploit their victims. Teaches viewers how they can minimize their risk and provides step-by-step instruction on what to do if you are a victim.

Covers what is Identity Theft, views of a perpetrator about the crime, interviews with victims and information on preventing. Explains ID Theft and actions that need to be taken by those investigating and by the victim. Produced by the U.S. Postal Inspection Service.

INVESTMENT SCAMS – WHAT CON ARTISTS DON’T WANT YOU TO KNOW (16 minute video) *NEW
Topics include an overview of types of investment scams, information on how to spot early warning signs, tips on protecting yourself and where to go for help.

LISTEN, LOOK AND HANG UP (19 minute video) *NEW
Shows three telemarketing fraud scams and provides information on how to report and what to do. Tells about the clues for detecting a telemarketing scam.

SENIOR SECURITY I – AVOIDING SCAMS & FRAUDS IN COLORADO (29 minute 2002 Mature Media Silver Award video)
Covers Medicare and Medical Fraud, Identity theft, Telemarketing Fraud, Mail Fraud, Home Improvement Fraud and Care Giver Fraud. It also covers victims of fraud, resources to prevent and report senior fraud and local resources. Produced in 2002 by CCERAP, Colorado Division of Insurance, Kaiser Permanente, and the Denver TRIAD.

SENIOR SECURITY II – MASTER OF THE TRANSACTION (22 minute 2004 Mature Media Bronze Award video)
Four segments in the video on Managing Health and Medical Bills; Giving to Charities; Planning for Increase Dependency; and Making Wise Investment Decisions. Each segment shows how the older population has been empowered to recognize and fight potential fraud. Produced in 2003 by CCERAP, AARP-ElderWatch, Better Business Bureau-Denver/Boulder, Colorado Division of Insurance, Denver DA, CSU Cooperative Extension, Boulder County Division of Aging, Boulder County Sheriff’s Department, Administration on Aging.

THE VICTIMIZATION OF BARBARA WHITE (14 minute video)
A description by Barbara White of her beating, kidnapping and robbery. A bank was tricked into giving the perpetrator her money. She does a great job and the video shows how the events unfolded, so it’s more than watching someone talk. Good to show to banks, victim assistance people, police and others.

THEY CAN’T HANG UP (18 minute video)
True stories about older people who have been taken advantage of by telemarketers. One widow lost $74,000 in one year. Discusses her “relationship” with the sales people on the phone. Her adult daughter discusses her perspective on her mother’s victimization and tips are offered on counseling and how to confront. Discusses myths of perceived victim personalities and describes the personality that is most easily victimized. Produced by the National Consumer League & National Fraud League. WEAPONS OF FRAUD – (13 minute video) *NEW
Describes the psychology behind consumer fraud, the clever ways that con artists persuade their victims to hand over money. It offers practical tips for avoiding fraud, as well as tips for identifying friends or relatives who may be at risk. Includes an interview with a convicted telemarketing con artist.
