Watch out for postcards with the return address of "National Processing Center" or "American Senior Alliance"...
It appears that there has been a resurfacing of a postcard scam
targeting seniors that advertises an "Elder Law Update." The business
reply mailer begins:
"Congress has legislation that standardizes entitlement provisions for
persons 60 and over...."
and then solicits personal information and a signature from those who
request additional information from the "National Processing Center" (a
similar, earlier scam included the return address of "American Senior
Alliance"). Recipients are urged to destroy the mailer and notify the
postal inspectors.
Here is a link to a 2004 article in the Senior Journal describing the
scam when it first surfaced:

Some seniors who have just lost a loved one are getting phone calls from individuals who claim to represent collection agencies. The callers try to collect funds they say are owed by the deceased person. However, upon questioning, the callers are not able to substantiate these "debts." They usually hang up if questioned. The U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) has asked the Denver-Boulder BBB to help find any victims of this scam, so DOJ could investigate.
If you or anyone you know has been a victim of this scam, please call Sue Cornette, at 303-996-3969 or email her at scornette@denver.bbb.org in order to refer the information.
